Sometimes It's About the Journey
We should probably just entitle the travel portion of my trip to Africa – the time I had to buy a t-shirt in Houston because I was so sweaty from running through the airport. I think that pretty much gives you a good idea of how seamless our two travel days went.
I am not sure what I expected of the hotel, the roads leading up to it were dirt and the area surrounding, simple and rustic.
We hiked the Marangue route, partly because it was the cheapest option, partly because you get to sleep in cabins along the way, but mostly because the route allows you to get to the summit in 5 days instead of 6.
Day two started at about 6 am. Our porter, one of the nicest guys I have ever met, Adam, brought us our birdbaths and we quickly washed our hands and brushed our teeth.
The Kibo Huts are the last stop before the summit. To get there, on day three, we had to hike through the Alpine Desert.
Pole Pole. Man. Ain’t that the truth.
Imagine me listening to Toto on repeat as I watched animals in their natural habitat.
The last stop on our trip was Zanzibar, and let me tell you, there is no place on earth like it.
